The GetPAID Project

An overview of the project (Get Postive Action and Information on Disability) and its aims.

Overall Aim of The Project

Get PAID is a capacity building project to enable non-public sector learning providers, voluntary organisations and employers to support and to cater for the needs of learners with Statements of Education Need (SEN) or learning difficulties and/or disabilities (LLDD).  It will address the wider social and economic factors relevant to maximising the contribution of disabled learners, through workshops, information, advice, support and networking through a network for practitioners.  It will assist stakeholders to implement the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act by providing information and advice.

Get PAID is an ESF funded project under objective 3, measure 2:2 reference 16 in order to continue the work of the SEN/LLDD Network. The project will run from April 2005 until March 2008.

GetPAID will:

  • Enable learner providers not in the public sector, such as apprenticeship providers and the voluntary sector to develop the full potential of disabled people
  • Provide an up to date directory/website containing relevant resources, specialist knowledge and expertise relating to disability issues within the London South Learning and Skills Council region
  • Assist stakeholders to implement the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act by providing information and advice
  • Address the wider social and economic factors relevant to maximising the contribution of disabled learners, through workshops, information, advice, support and networking

Over the two years the project will be running a number of training workshops at no charge, on issues such as dyslexia awareness, Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD and disclosing a disability training. This can also include employers who have or are considering taking on disabled trainees. Get PAID will also be developing six toolkits to support the development of organisational policies and procedures regarding disability issues, for example a good practice guide and disabled people, including disability etiquette and the recruitment and retention of disabled people. For further information, please contact Orline Smith Get PAID and SEN/LLDD Network Manager on telephone 020 8649 6434 or email orline.smith@prospects.co.uk
