Welcome to getpaid.org.uk

The Disability Discrimination Act became law in 1995 with the aim of ending the discrimination that many disabled people face. The DDA protects disabled people in employment, access to goods, facilities and services, the management, buying or renting of land or property and education.

How to Use GetPAID.org.uk:

  1. Select the disability you require advice on at the top right hand side of the website (for general information, select General from the list) and click "go"
  2. Select the type of resource or equipment you require information about (Most tips and toolkits will be found in either the "Staff Guidance" or "Employment Advice" sections) or select "show all" at the very bottom of the list.  The resources/equipment available will automatically load up.

There are a number of key documents produced by the Get PAID Project.  Direct links to these can be found on the page "The GetPAID Project" on the left hand menu of the site or via this link http://www.getpaid.org.uk/index/help.php

LLDD - Learners with Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities

Aim of the Project:

The Get PAID Project has produced a directory of resources and information to assist learning providers, as well as work based learning providers in South London to include learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act.

The directory will act as an open forum so that learner providers can exchange information and advice on best practice and the equipment available to include learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities in post 16 learning.

The website includes information and advice on a wide range of issues, including tips for tutors, examples of reasonable adjustments, teaching strategies, policies and guidelines, types of induction loops and transport.

The directory and website will provide a signposting service so that tutors and other staff working with learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities know where to seek further information and advice.

The overall objective of the website is to promote a culture of awareness concerning learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and support providers in the sharing and development of expertise and good practice.

The website has been developed in the last five months therefore there is much more to be included. We want to hear your views and what else you would like to see included.

Who is the Directory and Website aimed at?

  • Teachers and Tutors wanting information on how to include students with Asperger Syndrome or Attention Deficit Disorder.
  • College Principals and other managers wanting examples of other colleges’ mental health policies.
  • Personal Advisers within the Connexions Service may find the examples of reasonable adjustments useful in writing assessment reports.
  • Newly appointed managers or learning support co-ordinators within colleges or Apprenticeships wanting a background to the Disability Discrimination Act.

Some of the information will be relevant to teachers or tutors working with students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities in post 16 education or work based learning. Personal Advisers within the Connexions Service may find some of the examples of reasonable adjustments helpful when writing assessment reports.

The staff guidance section contains tips for tutors on including learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities in post 16 education. The Directory also contains policy documents, including examples of mental health policies and a guide to the Disability Discrimination Act.

Encouraging Best Practice in Enabling Learner Access to Learning (LLDD) - TOOLKIT
In July 2007 the Learning and Skills Council commissioned the Get PAID Project Manager to conduct research into encouraging best practice in enabling learner access to learning (LLDD). In order to conduct this research the Get PAID Manager contacted a variety of learning providers to enlist their help in providing information via face-to-face interviews and questionnaires. This toolkit is intended to encourage learner access to quality learning by providing evidence of best practice and making key recommendations.
